Annual Report 2018 - Locations & Events
Service member and spouse respondents indicate current optempo remains too high for a healthy work-life balance. ‘Amount of time away from family’ (47%) is the top concern among military family respondents, surpassing 'Pay and Benefits’ (42%), the top concern since 2013.*
Then They Go Home, and That’s When the Real Fun Begins
This event concept brought to USO-Metro by the creative staff at the USO Warrior and Family Center at Fort Belvoir may have been a bigger hit than the movie Frozen for our military children.
Not only does it bring families together, it gives these kids a connection to our USO, to our community, and lets them know there is a safe space where they can embrace adventure and new places and friends, which, as military kids, most have had plenty of practice with in their short lives so far.
A Family Adventure Beyond the Base
Situated on 290 acres of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Patriot Point’s mission is to provide a relaxing and safe environment to enjoy outdoor recreational activities for our nation’s wounded, ill and injured service members and their families. Thanks to Northrop Grumman and the Military Bowl, guests attending USO-Metro retreats on the property enjoy a variety of outdoor recreation activities including watersports such as kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding, boating, fishing, hunting and a 3-D archery course.
The job overtakes sometimes from the family unit. Being the spouse that’s home and the kid that’s home, sometimes you feel second to the job, so this has made us reconnect and know we’re number one
Your Personal (Virtual) Tour
Join Pauline for a virtual tour of the USO Warrior and Family Center at Bethesda. Thanks to center program sponsors Lockheed Martin and Valbin Corporation, this center provided more than 94,000 instances of service this past year.
82% of respondents in a recent Blue Star Family Survey felt that the general public didn’t understand or appreciate the sacrifices made by service members and spouses.*
Don’t Take Our Word For It
This compilation of testimonials from participants of USO-Metro’s popular Project USO Elf program speaks to the impact of this incredibly popular program.
The gifts mean a lot to the kids, of course, but the parents are often the emotional ones, overwhelmed with the idea that someone out there took the time to think about what this family might be going through and did something to help a stranger.
